A multi-faceted musician, Dajla leaves the U.S. to return to her hometown, giving rhythm and soul in her new single and an upcoming show.
Author-composer, performer, producer, musical coach … Dajla Lalia has traveled a long road sown with multiple musical encounters, experiences to make all young people dream who like her, began music by taking courses at the Conservatory of Saint-Nazaire. After having wandered her reggae-soul accents from country to country, from London to New York, always following the current of her desires, her faith in her music and her instincts, she returns to Saint-Nazaire, her home port and also the port of all departures. Her collaborations in New York with producer Gordon Williams (producer of Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill), and legendary artists such as Stephen Marley, or Aston Barrett of the Wailers, make her an honest, no-fuss and incredibly mature artist, ready to launch herself into new musical projects. She still has one foot in France and one in New York, where her collaborations continue.
The release of a single in October
Dajla signs her return to France with the release, next week, of a new single and video clip “Let it Go” with featuring Kenyan rapper/singer Blinky Bill. A single tinged with accents of soul jazz and hip hop, still produced by Gordon Williams, which inaugurates the flavors that the artist reserves for us in his next tracks. Entirely shot in Saint-Nazaire, the clip also welcomes young local dancers as special guests, the Ghetto Twins (available next week on Dajla’s youtube channel). Because between writing and composing, Dajla has always given a particular importance to the transmission to young talents. Through her music education program, Lalia Music Education, the artist teaches piano, composition and songwriting in English, in France and also online to her students worldwide.
She has also returned to the Conservatory in Nantes and Saint-Nazaire, this time as a vocal coach for contemporary music. “It was very emotional to go back there” confides the artist.
“I will run workshops and masterclasses of music and singing during the school holiday, open to everyone, even those not enrolled at the Conservatory. The next session will take place from October 25 to 28” she adds.
A new show for 2022
“When I came back to Saint-Nazaire, I was able to work on my new show at the VIP, thanks to Tam Tam productions, which helped with of the residency project, and benefited from the support of the city of Saint-Nazaire and the region,” says the artist. Two shows have already been given and more should follow in 2022.
