Dajla Releases a New Single
Music. Singer-songwriter, musician and producer, Dajla, releases “Laisse Tomber”, a single and music video, on all digital platforms. Very often with Dajla, you are stricken by her energy, her will to go forward and to share. Always in motion, the artist, who recently became a Nazarian again (inhabitant of Saint-Nazaire City) after spending some time in New York, has many projects in the works, with other artists.
“Say “No” to fear”
Meanwhile, she has just released her new single, “Laisse Tomber”. For her first song in French, she takes her audience on a journey of warm and colourful sounds. A high-energy single fusing the horns of the Skatalites , the rhythm of Chris Meredith, Stephen Marley’s late bass player….And, of course, this very unique soul voice, Dajla’s signature. Between hip-hop and reggae…Dajla delivers “feel-good music”, this “music that soothes us, and encourages us not to give in to fear. This single comes with a music video, shot in Saint-Nazaire, between the beach, the Appart Bar and a Sports Club.
“One day, you will be a singer”
In the meantime, she is working on a documentary, with Herve Batteux, which has gotten financial support from the City and the Region. Inspired by the life of a French-Tunisian little girl who dreams of making her dreams come true, dreams made of music, of the stage, of encounters. A step away from Dajla’s journey, she says in a laugh “yes, there is some of me in it, but it is mainly to inspire the youth, and tell them, “go ahead, believe in yourselves”. She remembers being 12 years old, watching Whitney Houston on television, a magic moment “a little voice telling me, one day, you will be a singer”. Twenty years later Dajla was in New York with Gordon Williams, known for his work with Whitney Houston, or more recently….Amy Winehouse…The cycle is complete. Today, Dajla, now back in Saint-Nazaire, has other projects, like sharing her experience, “to show that we can all get there, but with a lot of work”.
Finally, in 2022, there is the new album release, produced with Gordon Williams, and for which she has started working on the show with Herve Batteux, of Tam Tam Production. They started their collaboration last November, they rehearsed at the VIP venue, surrounded by musicians from “White Tiger Society, the collective that we created”. In addition, there is a collaboration with the Ghetto Trio, three young dancers from Saint-Nazaire that are making a lot of noise with their choreographies. So, on stage, Dajla is enthusiastic “it’s gonna be amazing”. They were hoping to perform this summer “but the show wasn’t totally ready, so we wanted to finish our residency and test it before presenting it to our audiences, and we would love to play at the Escales Festival 30th Anniversary, in 2022”.
